Do you all remember that scene at the end of The Lion King, where Rafiki tells Simba, “It is time.”
The San Jose Sharks have a Captain. Macklin Celebrini has been named the eleventh Captain in team history.
The Sharks have not had a Captain on ice since Logan Couture’s unofficial retirement. San Jose used a five-man leadership core last season, all players named as alternate captains.

Now, that leadership core will once again have an official Captain.
Many people have urged GM Mike Grier to make it official, while others think Celebrini is still too young. However, Celebrini captained Team Canada at the World Championships this spring. He may be young, but he is a leader in every way.
Former Captain Joe Thornton presented Celebrini with the updated jersey and an official introduction to the rest of the team.
The Sharks X account posted the video shortly after 11:00 AM.

During the press conference, Celebrini said being Captain is a tremendous honor. Grier and head coach Ryan Warsofsky also said Celebrini’s leadership has really evolved this year. He called draft picks on Draft Night and organized teammates getting back to San Jose before training camp.
The kid is now Captain.
The San Jose Sharks are in good hands with Celebrini leading the way.
